Udawalawe is open year-round, and elephants can be seen in every season. Still, the time of year changes the experience.
Drier months
During drier periods, animals gather around remaining water sources, which can make sightings more predictable. Tracks are dusty and the grass is lower.
Wetter months
Rain turns the park green and lush. The scenery is beautiful, though tall grass can make animals harder to spot and some tracks become muddy.
Our advice
Check recent weather and ask your guesthouse what the park has been like. Whenever you go, book a morning drive. It is the best time of day in any season.
